Why Kainos Microschool Has Chosen Not to Participate in Indiana's School Choice Scholarship Program

One of the questions we hear most often is:

"Why doesn't Kainos accept Indiana school vouchers?"

It's a fair question.

After careful consideration, we've intentionally chosen not to participate in the School Choice Scholarship (voucher) program.

Here's why.

It's Not About the Funding

The decision wasn't made because we don't want families to receive financial assistance.

In fact, we wish every family who desired a personalized education could afford it.

Our decision is about protecting what makes Kainos unique.

Preserving Educational Freedom

One of the greatest strengths of microschools is flexibility.

We have the freedom to:

• Personalize learning for every student.

• Move students based on mastery rather than grade-level pacing.

• Design curriculum around student needs.

• Maintain our unique culture and philosophy.

• Make decisions quickly without layers of bureaucracy.

• Focus on instruction and learning rather than data reporting and testing.

Participating in voucher programs often comes with increasing state oversight and regulatory requirements. While many excellent schools choose to participate, we've determined that preserving our autonomy best serves our students and mission.

We Want to Stay Focused on Students

Our time is better spent teaching children than navigating additional compliance requirements.

Remaining independent allows us to spend more energy on building relationships, improving instruction, and supporting families.

We Still Believe Education Should Be Accessible

Although we don't participate in the voucher program, we remain committed to making Kainos accessible whenever possible.

As an accredited Indiana non-public school, families can still benefit from opportunities such as Indiana's Scholarship Granting Organization (SGO) program. Through generous donors, students can receive tuition assistance while allowing Kainos to maintain the flexibility that makes our model so effective.

We're also continually working to expand scholarship opportunities through fundraising and community partnerships.

Staying True to Our Mission

Every school has to make decisions based on its mission.

For Kainos, remaining independent allows us to continue providing the highly personalized, relationship-driven education that our families have come to expect.

We respect schools that make different decisions.

For us, preserving the flexibility to serve students in the ways we believe are best is worth protecting.

Because at the end of the day, every decision we make comes back to one question:

Will this help us better serve students?

For now, the answer is clear.
