Why We Don't Assign Homework at Kainos Microschool

One of the first questions prospective families ask us is, "How much homework do your students have?" Our answer often surprises them:

None.

At Kainos Microschool, we intentionally have a no-homework policy. It's not because we don't value academics. We absolutely do. In fact, our data shows that our students make remarkable academic progress. We simply believe that meaningful learning should happen during the school day, leaving evenings for something equally important: family.

Home Should Feel Like Home

Today's families are busier than ever. Parents are balancing careers, appointments, extracurricular activities, and the everyday responsibilities of raising children. Adding hours of homework to the evening often creates unnecessary stress and conflict.

We believe home should be a place where families can:

• Eat dinner together.

• Attend sports, music lessons, and church activities.

• Read books for enjoyment.

• Play games.

• Spend time outdoors.

• Have meaningful conversations.

• Simply enjoy being together.

These experiences are valuable learning opportunities, too.

Learning Happens During the School Day

Because of our small class sizes and personalized approach, students receive the support they need while they are at school. Teachers work alongside students, identify needs quickly, and provide targeted instruction before students head home.

Instead of sending unfinished learning home, we focus on ensuring students make meaningful progress during the school day.

Less Stress. More Joy.

Homework often becomes a battle between parents and children. We don't believe parents should have to become teachers every evening.

Parents already have the incredibly important job of being parents.

When children know that school stays at school, evenings become calmer. Families report fewer arguments, less anxiety, and more opportunities to simply enjoy one another.

What About Academic Success?

Choosing not to assign homework has not meant lowering our expectations.

Our students work hard every day. They are challenged academically, encouraged to think critically, and supported individually. The results speak for themselves.
